As all of our conference centres are set in beautiful rural locations, delegates attending events at our venues have a fantastic choice of open spaces, walking routes and natural areas to explore. As well as landscaped gardens, wooded areas and wild meadows, our venues also look out onto open countryside, something that enhances the views, the entertainment options and the tranquillity of our centres.
One of these open spaces is Barclay Park. Located next to High Leigh in Hoddesdon, Hertfordshire, Barclay Park offers delegates somewhere to relax, unwind, exercise and enjoy the great outdoors.
Covering 18 acres of idyllic Hertfordshire countryside, Barclay Park is one of the most popular open spaces in the area. Originally part of the High Leigh estate, Barclay Park was purchased by Robert Buchanan Barclay in 1871. Over the coming years, Robert Barclay put a lot of effort into improving the park, building a football pitch, an ornamental lake, bridges and a cricket field in the grounds.
In 1935, the land we now know as Barclay Park was donated by the Barclay family to the people of Hoddesdon. Since then, it has been managed by the local council and has been enjoyed by generations of local families as well as delegates visiting neighbouring High Leigh Conference Centre.
Barclay Park boasts an excellent selection of facilities. Its ornamental pond is a great destination for a family day out, while picnic tables, toilets and easy access routes ensure visitors have everything they need for day in the great outdoors.
A number of clearly signposted walking routes crisscross the park, with a variety of distances and difficulty levels to choose from. Visitors will also find a selection of well-equipped play areas, a kick about court, woodland and a meadow.
Barclay Park is only a 5-minute walk through the High Leigh grounds. An enjoyable and relaxing walk and a must for delegates staying at the conference centre.
A great destination for a day out in the countryside, Barclay Park has everything you need for a relaxing and enjoyable excursion. To find out more about the park, or about other attractions in the local area, explore our site or get in touch with a friendly member of the CCT team.
