Few things are as evocative of the British countryside as the sights and smells of the farmyard. Timeless and beautiful, the farm is an integral part of our national landscape.
As all of our outstanding conference centres are set in rural locations, delegates are sure to pass at least a few farms as they travel to and from their conference. However, visitors to The Hayes may well get a little closer to nature than they expected, with a working farm right on the doorstep of this stunning Derbyshire estate.
Guests and delegates attending a conference at The Hayes are guaranteed to spot a few bovine neighbours during their stay. A self-sustainable livestock farm that’s been operating for years, the farm at The Hayes adds an authentic touch to the surrounding landscape.
Having a livestock farm at The Hayes has helped us to manage and develop the surrounding countryside using tried and tested natural methods. Grazing cattle help to keep the land free of invasive weeds and trees, enabling us to use minimal fertilisers and sprays, and helping the land around The Hayes to remain as chemical free as possible.
As well as helping to manage and enhance the local countryside, the farm at The Hayes has added to the local community. Its self-sufficiency has allowed us to take on an agricultural apprentice to help with the daily running of the farm and to give something back to the farming community in the nearby area.
As delegates arrive at The Hayes, they’ll see cows grazing in the fields alongside the driveway and hear the sounds of the farmyard. This will help to give them an authentic country experience and will add to the rural atmosphere of the conference centre.
For those coming from the cities, especially for younger delegates, the chance to be so close to nature could well be a unique experience. Visitors staying at The Hayes can enjoy country walks through local farmland, see the animals up close and get an idea of the daily life at a self-sustainable farm.
