At Christian Conference Trust, we have developed a biodiversity strategy that aims to restore habitats and protect the natural environments that surround our beautiful venues.
Our three rural locations in Derbyshire, Hertfordshire and Norfolk are home to a wide variety of birds, mammals, fish, amphibians and even reptiles. A stunning array of flora and fauna covers much of the land surrounding our conference centres which includes over 200 acres of lakes, farmland and woodland.
It’s our duty to protect and nurture this environment, not only for guests to enjoy but also to play our part in protecting the wider ecosystems of our communities.
As part of this action plan we’ve recently planted 57 meters of native hawthorn hedgerow for wildlife to thrive at High Leigh and at The Hayes we’ve erected 32 bird boxes, installed 5 house-martin boxes on buildings and fitted 5 bat boxes to provide an environment for our flying visitors to stay. We are currently exploring introducing beehives at our centres next year too.
This is just the start of our biodiversity strategy which also includes changes to our composting and grass cutting schedule to improve conditions for invertebrates, which in turn provides food for birds and mammals such as hedgehogs.
There is more to come as we continue to welcome not only human guests to our precious rural environments which we have been blessed with.
