The Hayes Conference Centre has officially launched as a Partner-In-Action with leading Christian conservation charity, A Rocha UK at a special event held in Swanwick on 9 May 2022.
The Rt Revd Bishop Malcolm Macnaughton, Bishop of Repton marked this new partnership by planting a local Rowan tree at the ceremony attended by the teams at The Hayes, A Rocha UK and Trustees of Christian Conference Trust.
This exciting new partnership underlines the commitment we are making to the environment and launches a number of projects that will benefit the ecosystem in and around our Derbyshire venue.
This year we have planted 250 metres of hedgerow and 420 trees as well as installed 32 bird boxes, 5 house martin boxes and 5 bat boxes.
A herb garden has recently been created which chefs from the venue’s kitchen use daily. 12 herbs including basil, oregano, thyme, coriander, parsley, dill and mint are used in dishes prepared for guests to enjoy.
The Rt Revd Bishop Malcolm Macnaughton, Bishop of Repton and Adrian Brittain-Limb, General Manager
John Heasman, Chief Executive said “We’re delighted to partner with A Rocha UK to help us as we seek to be good stewards of the resources God has blessed us with for future generations to enjoy. Owning over 100 acres of stunning rural countryside in Derbyshire gives us a lot of nature to look after for the benefit of the environment, our guests and our local community. We’re particularly excited to welcome 40,000 bees to two new hives on site this year! This summer the bees will be busy supporting local biodiversity whilst also making honey for our guests to enjoy. This is just the start of our partnership with A Rocha with many more environmental projects planned”.
