Alpha is an 11-week course that helps people explore questions about life and the Christian faith. Each week features a talk on a particular theme followed by discussion about what was heard. Towards the end of the programme, guests get to think about the Holy Spirit and this takes the form of an away day or weekend away (The weekend would usually run Friday evening to Sunday morning, but some groups opt for shorter periods if they can’t do the full weekend). The idea is to watch and discuss the relevant talks, but also connect with God and each other through prayer, and to relax and have fun together.
Of course, an extended time means more commitment and organisation, but it provides a richer experience too. Alpha suggest four good reasons to do the weekend:
For the best possible experience, we recommend using this opportunity not just to stay in the same space you’ve been gathering in, but to get some fresh air and spend time together somewhere different. At Christian Conference Trust, we specialise in hosting events to help people gather, learn and have fun together. We know the difference meeting in-person for a residential makes – it’s our bread and butter. Our venues offer high quality food, accommodation and meeting spaces, and we offer competitive rates to make sure you can afford to come. We also offer bursaries where money is a particular obstacle.
Going away can sometimes feel like a faff. A stress we don’t need. Why not just keep it simple and local? There’s times when that’s true of course, but sometimes you don’t know how much you need a getaway until you get away. You smell that fresh air. You enjoy food made for you. You relax in rural surroundings that give you the headspace to slow down and reflect.
It all adds up to a richer, deeper experience for your Alpha Weekend – and a memorable conclusion to your 11 weeks together. When it comes to Alpha away days and weekends, we’re very familiar with what people need from them, and how to cultivate the best possible experience. We’d love to help you!
If any of that sounds appealing to you, or you think your group might benefit from some time away, why not drop us a message? We’d be delighted to tell you more about what we offer and explore what you’re after. There’s no pressure of course, if you decide it’s not right for you that’s fine!
