At Christian Conference Trust, our priority is relationships. Bringing people together for in-person community they couldn’t get elsewhere. It’s because of that core value that our rooms don’t feature something you might be used to seeing in hotel accommodation: televisions. People sometimes ask about this, so we thought we would say a bit more about why that is.
Let’s say you get a chance to go away from your home and work environments for a weekend, to enjoy a retreat from day-to-day familiarity. A chance to be somewhere new with a whole bunch of wonderful, interesting people. That’s a precious opportunity, so how can you make the most of that time together?
Making the most of in-person community
You could be outside exploring nature with friends. You could be enjoying our bars and relaxing in our lounges, meeting new people. Maybe you’re having a laugh or you’re engaged in deep discussion about the meaning of life. You might be praying, worshipping or learning with fellow delegates. Maybe you’re not with other people but you’re finding some solitude, reflecting, journalling or reading. There are so many life-giving things you could be doing to make the most of being away. Activities that help you to feel rested, inspired, refreshed for when you get back to the day-to-day. With those in mind, watching TV in your room feels like something you could do anywhere else.
Now, maybe there really is a show you just have to see for whatever reason, or perhaps you want to stick something on to entertain your kids for a moment. Our guests can still access our fast Wi-Fi in their rooms if they’d like to stream to their devices. There are big screens in our communal lounges too – your group might like to put on a movie night for some fun communal viewing.
We’re not trying to cut our guests off from the outside world or from enjoying something by themselves – we enjoy TV too! We just really want people to gather when they gather, to enjoy the priceless offer of in-person community.
