The Woodlands Lounge

April 2024

After a long day of seminars, training sessions, or meetings, it's important to have a comfortable place to relax and unwind. The Woodlands Lounge at High Leigh is perfect for this. With large windows, this room gives great views of the grounds. Its comfortable seating and beautiful decor provide a warm environment to catch up with friends and family.

What's new?

Earlier this year, a brand-new carpet was fitted along with a wooden floor border. Some of the furniture has been updated with new, comfy seating and fresh decor has been introduced to match the 'woodland' aesthetic of the room. Although these new refurbishments have brought a fresh, modern look, some of the old furniture which has been with High Leigh for almost 100 years, has been kept as an important part of the room.

What's old?

While High Leigh is updated and modernised, it's important to us that its rich history is preserved. In the Woodlands Lounge we have kept the original table and chairs which have been around for almost 100 years. These can be seen in the photos below.

The same chairs shown in the first image can be seen in the centre of this photo taken in the 1920s.

Back in WW2, the staff at High Leigh taped up the windows to prevent injury from shattered glass during bomb raids. After the war, this tape was peeled off but left marks which can still be seen today!

When you're next at High Leigh, make sure to spend some time in the Woodlands Lounge. Our blog has more information on the history of High Leigh...
