High Leigh’s new Market Garden

January 2025

At High Leigh, we’re bringing a historic part of the estate back to life with our new Market Garden project. Located in the same spot as the original Barclay family Market Garden, this space is being transformed into a beautiful and practical area to grow fresh produce for our kitchen. It'll also serve as a quiet place for guests to retreat and enjoy God's creation.

Fresh Food

The walled garden will soon be brimming with vegetables, herbs, and possibly fruit trees. All of this homegrown goodness will be used in the meals we serve to our guests, bringing fresh, seasonal flavours straight to the table.

Victorian Charm

At the heart of the garden is a stunning Victorian-style greenhouse, perfect for nurturing delicate plants and extending the growing season. What’s made this project truly special, though, is how it’s brought the whole High Leigh maintenance team together. From building to planting, everyone’s been pitching in to make this dream a reality.

A Touch of Tranquillity

We’ve also added a little fish pond, currently home to five lively goldfish (with more on the way). It’s already shaping up to be a peaceful spot where guests can pause and enjoy the calming sights and sounds of the garden.

Looking Ahead

While the garden isn’t quite finished, we’re already planning ahead. Fruit trees will be planted along one side, adding even more colour and life to the space. The result will be a thriving, sustainable garden that connects us to High Leigh’s history while looking firmly toward the future.

We can’t wait to share the progress of this exciting project with you—stay tuned for updates as the Market Garden grows!
